Understanding privacy and data laws is the responsibility of everyone in your organisation - from board / committee members to employees and volunteers, it’s vital you all understand the key privacy principles and how they apply
In this 3-hour session you’ll get a comprehensive introduction to privacy and data laws that affect not-for-profit organisations.
Our lawyers will walk you through the personal information lifecycle: from collection of data, through to use and disclosure, storage and access, and finally complaints and the data breach notification laws.
You'll learn about:
- Commonwealth privacy laws
- How to legally collect, use and store personal information
- Documents and systems you need in place
- Rights to access personal information
- Handling a privacy complaint or data breach
We’ll also give you top tips and additional resources to help you in the future.

Your training will be run by one of our lawyers, who all specialise in charity and not-for-profit law.

Our interactive sessions are currently delivered online. Each session includes time for activities and questions, and a short break. Face to face training is being considered on a case by case basis.
