Training sessions

Justice Connect offers the following training sessions for select individual LALCs: 

Legal duties of LALC board members

This training session will help LALC board members understand their roles and the legal duties that apply to them, how to make decisions in the best interests of the LALC, and the process for managing conflicts of interest that arise between the personal interests of a board member and the interests of the organisation.

The training will cover:

  • the source of legal duties for LALC boards
  • key legal duties of board members
  • other laws that board members should be aware of, and
  • how board members can protect themselves from personal liability and risk.

Understanding important agreements

This training session will help LALCs understand why it is important to put agreements in writing, the different types of important agreements your LALC may be asked to enter into, and how to reduce risk for the organisation when entering into, changing and terminating agreements.

The training will cover:

  • the importance of documenting agreements
  • specific types of agreements and contracts
  • reviewing an agreement or contract, and
  • risk assessment and approval processes for agreements and contracts.

Employment life cycle

This training session will help LALCs understand the key obligations of an employer in the employment life cycle, from recruitment through to termination, actions that may lead to legal claims and how to recognise and prevent inappropriate and unlawful behaviour in the workplace. 

The training will cover:

  • pre-employment and formation of the employment relationship
  • management of the employment relationship
  • inappropriate and unlawful workplace behaviour
  • termination of employment, unfair dismissal and general protections claims, and 
  • employer liability
