By accessing or using the Justice Connect websites, you accept and agree to comply with the disclaimer and conditions of use set out below (‘Disclaimer and Conditions of Use’). From time to time, we may change the Disclaimer and Conditions of Use at our discretion at any time without notice.

Legal status

This website is owned and operated by Justice Connect ABN 54 206 789 276, an Australian Public Company which is registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (Justice Connect, we or us).

The materials included in the Websites, and the Not-for profit Law resources available on these Websites, are produced by Justice Connect and in some cases with the pro bono assistance of Justice Connect member firms. These materials include any web application, webinars, videos and ‘training materials’, which include all verbal training content, live and recorded, as well as written resources, such as presentation slides, workbooks and other accompanying materials created by Justice Connect.

The materials on the Websites are designed and intended to provide general information in summary form on legal topics; and are for general information purposes only.  The materials are current at the time of publication. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Justice Connect does not warrant or guarantee the currency, accuracy or completeness of the materials at the time you access them. The materials will not apply to all jurisdictions. Even where an application provides you with a bespoke information product, this is information only, and not legal advice.

Jurisdiction for legal information

The legal information on the Websites relates to the jurisdictions indicated on the relevant webpage and on the downloadable or streamable resources. Justice Connect does not represent that we provide legal information in or relevant to each jurisdiction from which this website may be viewed.

Limitation of Justice Connect liability

No claim or representation is made or warranty given, express or implied, in relation to any of the material in the Websites, resources, or web applications. You use the Websites and any of their contents entirely at your own risk.

Where conditions and warranties implied by law cannot be excluded, Justice Connect limits its liability to the maximum extent provided for by the Australian Consumer Law.  Where a limit can be specified, that limit is $1. Otherwise, Justice Connect is not liable for any loss or damage (including consequential loss or damage) to any person, however caused, which may arise directly or indirectly from the material in the Websites or the use of such material.

Justice Connect is not responsible for the content of any document, information, or other material posted on the Websites or for ensuring that any document or information posted on the Websites is or remains accurate, current, suitable, or complete. Justice Connect endeavours to maintain the accuracy of information available from the Websites, however, some or all of the information may, from time to time, be amended, or become superseded or otherwise inaccurate.

Justice Connect makes changes periodically to the material on the Websites. Justice Connect does not represent that access to the Websites will always be available and given the inherent insecurity of the internet, we cannot guarantee the security of the contents of the Websites.  Justice Connect is not responsible for delays, errors, inaccuracies, or omissions due to a failure in a computer system, ancillary equipment, software, or any other circumstances. Justice Connect does not warrant or represent that the material will not cause damage, or is free from any computer virus or any other defects or errors.

No client-solicitor relationship created

Using the Websites does not mean that you become a client of Justice Connect, or that we become your lawyers.

The transmission or receipt of any material on the Websites is not intended to create, nor should such transmission or receipt be taken as creating, a client-solicitor relationship between you and Justice Connect.

User obligations

You agree to provide us with accurate information when liaising with us, however in some circumstances you may use a pseudonym if you tell us you are doing so (noting that this may limit the level of assistance that we are able to provide you). For some of our Websites you will be required to provide your name and other personal information when liaising with us.

If you do provide your personal information to Justice Connect, Justice Connect handles your personal information in accordance with Australian Privacy Principles as explained in our privacy policy.

You agree not to defame or harm any other person when using our Websites, and to abide by the law at all times. You agree not to interfere with the use of other users on our Websites.

You must not post viruses or malicious code, attempt to hack the Websites, use the Websites to breach the law, or harass or bully other users.

You are prohibited from posting or sharing content on the Websites such as hate speech, sexually explicit material, and violent content.

We reserve the right to remove any content which does not comply with the Disclaimer and Conditions of Use, and to terminate the user’s account.

Links to other websites

The material on the Websites may refer to or contain hyperlinks to external websites. These external websites, and any content in those websites, do not form part of the Websites and are not under the control of Justice Connect. Justice Connect does not necessarily sponsor, endorse, or approve of any material on any such websites or services, and makes no warranties, endorsement, or representations regarding the quality, accuracy, merchantability, or fitness for purpose of any material on external websites or their content.  Further we accept no liability for the control of those websites or any loss arising from accessing the same.

We are not responsible for the protection of your personal information which may be handled by third parties through external websites.

Unless otherwise expressly stated, copyright in all materials available on the Websites is owned by Justice Connect. These materials may only be used for your personal use, or non-commercial use within your not-for-profit organisation, in their complete form with Justice Connect clearly acknowledged as copyright owner and links to this disclaimer retained, and as otherwise permitted by the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth).

Materials, or sections of materials from the Websites must not be published (such as replication of Justice Connect materials on another website or in a newsletter) without obtaining Justice Connect’s prior written permission.

All other rights are reserved. Note that specific materials on this website (such as publications) may have their own specific copyright notices.

For the avoidance of doubt, unless otherwise expressly stated or as permitted by the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth), you are not permitted to:

Any person or organisation may provide links to the Websites on their webpage provided that the links are clearly acknowledged as Justice Connect’s. Justice Connect requests that links to its Websites are not framed by advertising or any images or materials which may mislead or deceive a person as to the source or the author of Justice Connect’s materials. Justice Connect reserves the right to prevent unauthorised linking or framing by giving notice.

Trade marks

All trade marks mentioned on the Websites belong to their respective owners. Justice Connect’s name and logo are trade marks of Justice Connect. The Justice Connect logo may not be used without the prior specific, written permission of Justice Connect.

Click-through agreements

Our Websites use click-through agreements to obtain your consent or agreement. For instance, people who visit the Justice Connect Answers website and select ‘get started’ will be taken to the Client User Agreement which is a click-through agreement. Volunteer lawyers will need to agree to the Lawyer User Agreement which is a click-through agreement to register an account with Justice Connect Answers.

By checking a box, or clicking a button that says ‘I agree’, you are providing your acceptance to the terms of the relevant click-through agreement which is legally binding.  

Personal login information

You are responsible for keeping your personal login information secure.  You must not share your login information with anyone.  Failure to keep your personal login information secure may result in your access to the Websites being terminated.

Our Websites may use cookies.  More information concerning why we use cookies in set out in our privacy policy.

Internet browsers are typically set to receive cookies.  If you do not wish to receive cookies from the Websites, you should change the settings on your browser.
