Not-for-profit Law ‘helps the helpers' by providing tailored legal information, advice and training to not-for-profit community organisations. By relieving the burden of legal issues, organisations can better focus their time and energy on achieving their mission - whether that's supporting vulnerable people, delivering community services, enhancing diversity or bringing together the community.

We are focused on improving access to legal help for not-for-profit community organisations, and on improving the legal landscape in which they operate.  Our policy and law reform work is focused on reducing red tape for the not-for-profit sector, helping not-for-profits be more efficient and better run, and ensuring that reform takes into account impacts on the not-for-profit sector.

This Information Hub contains the information aspect of our service. You can find out more about the other aspects of Not-for-profit Law's service at www.justiceconnect.org.au/nfplaw. You can also find our about similar organisations operating around Australia providing pro bono referrals to community groups.

Not-for-profit Law (previously known as PilchConnect) was first established as a specialist legal service established to provide free and low cost legal assistance to not-for-profit community organisations in VIctoria in 2008. The service expanded to NSW in 2013, and in February 2016 launched an Information Hub covering laws relevant to charities and not-for-profits for every state and territory of Australia.

Not-for-profit Law is a service of the registered charity, Justice Connect. Not-for-profit Law is funded through a range of grants from philanthropic foundations, other donations, government grants and our members.

Our members also help us in our work with charities and not-for-profits by providing pro bono (free) legal advice, training and assisting with the development of the resources on this website. The Information Hub is accessed hundreds of thousands of times each year, and is testament to the impact that philanthropy, charity and pro bono resources working together can have on the Australian community sector.
